Heya, kappa here! (o’Θ’o)ノ)) waves

Remember Baberuppa♪ (Baberuppa) from the other day?

The tool itself seems to be working fine, but lately, it looks like all the little internet hiccups have been getting worse. With all the internet slowdowns and disruptions going on, including the PHP vulnerability-related incident, some users seem to be experiencing more frequent “Lag skip” events.

Apparently, this issue is happening quite often in certain environments.

(´・Θ・`) Oh dear! Is there anything we can do about it?

Yep, there is! d(・Θ・。)ネッ

It’s pretty simple.

Open config.yaml and look for this setting:

yaml

lag_skip_threshold: 10.0 # Threshold in seconds for skipping translations to recover from lag (0 = disabled)

👆️

If yours is set to 5 seconds, try changing it to 10 seconds.

If you don’t mind the translation occasionally falling a little behind, you can also set it to 0 to disable translation skipping entirely.

yaml

lag_skip_threshold: 0

That way, Baberuppa won’t skip translations just to catch up when lag occurs. Just keep in mind that if your connection is unstable, the subtitles may fall further behind.

A few other things worth trying…

In most cases, this seems to be related to internet connection issues.

Here are a few things you can try:

  • Restart your modem and router.

  • Disable power-saving features for your Wi-Fi adapter or Ethernet connection.

  • Check whether your internet connection is stable.

These simple steps may be enough to resolve the problem in many cases. ☕

I also use Baberuppa every two or three days when watching livestreams from overseas streamers whose broadcasts don’t have subtitles available.

The other day, I noticed something was off and thought, “Hmm? What’s going on here?” (。・Θ・。)チッ

As for the internet situation, it seems that some major websites, including Amazon, had reportedly been targeted by AI-assisted attacks even before the PHP vulnerability was publicly disclosed.

It’s possible that some of the internet disruptions are related to malicious activity, but I can’t confirm that these attacks are the direct cause of the connection issues described here.

Anyway, stay safe out there, everyone!

Take care when using Baberuppa, and I hope these tips help make your overseas livestream viewing a little smoother. 🐸

That’s all from your friendly neighborhood kappa!
